Marconi Foundation at risk of closure

The budget document of the Ministry of Economics classifies as "useless institution"

The Marconi Foundation is a "useless institution" to be abolished? In the government's financial programming document (DPEF) Article 82 provides for measures to be implemented to improve the efficiency of government agencies, suppressing, reordering or privatization. Under the sword of Damocles of the 17 institutions is also unnecessary Marconi Foundation (established in 1938), supervised by the Ministry of Culture and the status of which is a mix of public and private sectors. The Foundation's headquarters at Villa Griffon Pontecchio, employing about thirty people, mostly young researchers. State funding body is granted only after the ministerial tender (about 20% of the budget), and most of the resources come from construction, scientific collaborations and sponsors.
"That's the definition of 'useless body' - says the president of the Foundation, Falciasecca Gabriele, professor of Telecommunications Alma Mater - we had a significant loss of image just as we were coordinating with relevant ministries initiatives allocation for the centenary of the Nobel Prize for physics to Guglielmo Marconi in 1909. " Falciasecca is very bitter and does not hide his concern.
"I hope that the goal for the Foundation is more than a reordering of the statute rather than a real withdrawal, very difficult to implement in practice, beyond the consequent harm to the country. Do not forget - he continued - through research conducted by the Foundation over the years have come significant scientific contribution to the development of systems such as GSM, UMTS, GPS and Telepass. We are also recognized worldwide for excellence in research on the history of telecommunications, not only for the figure and work of Guglielmo Marconi. " Now what happens? "I hope-Falciasecca hopes - that the parliamentary debates on the budget will recognize the inappropriateness of the State of 'fall out' by the Foundation, or at least to clarify unambiguously what measures the Government intends to take. Deputy Prime Minister Francesco Rutelli has given assurances to that effect two days ago to 'Porta a Porta', and I understand that the staff of the Communications Minister, Paolo Gentiloni, and Senator Walter Vitali are struggling to do so. Otherwise we would facing a serious affront to history: the Foundation operates in the name of the man who changed the world with his inventions. Moreover, it would deprive the country of a point of reference for research and the meeting of this with the business. "
